The Buzz Around Ritual: A Re-Emergence In A Modern World

If you’ve been online lately, you’ve probably noticed the word ritual popping up everywhere. Morning rituals, skincare rituals, coffee rituals, even “scrolling rituals.” It seems like everyone is reclaiming this word, and yeah, I get it. It can get a bit tiring, particularly when it doesn’t line up with your ideas of ritual, and what it means to you….

So let’s dive into it … Is “ritual” just becoming another buzzword? OR (hear me out) are we witnessing a genuine re-emergence of something ancient, powerful, and needed in our fast-paced modern lives?

It’s easy to roll our eyes when we see “ritual” attached to every product or practice. When a five-minute face mask becomes a “ritual,” some might argue the word loses its depth. But here’s the thing: ritual doesn’t have to look one specific way.

For some, ritual means chanting under the full moon, drinking ceremonial cacao, or sitting in deep meditation. For others, it’s lighting a candle before bed, brewing a mindful cup of tea, or simply taking a moment to breathe before opening emails.

When we strip away the judgment, we see that ritual is really about intention. Whether big or small, sacred or simple, these practices remind us to pause… to mark a moment as meaningful.

So, why the obsession?

Perhaps it’s because the world is collectively craving more meaning, more connection, and more presence. After years of busyness, hustle culture, and disconnection, we’re waking up to the truth that life feels richer when we create space for the sacred, even in the everyday.

This re-emergence of ritual in modern culture might not always look “traditional,” but it reflects a deep human need: to connect with ourselves, with others, and with something deeper beyond the surface.

I’ve seen quite a lot of negativity (filled with ego quite honestly) from those further along their spiritual path, scoffing at those not (yet) on the same level of awareness, who have differing ways to express themselves and their ideas, particularly online. But let’s drop the ego for a second and accept - that no two people will walk the same spiritual path. Some dive deep into shadow work, ancient traditions, and ceremony. Then you have others simply find joy in calling their morning smoothie a ritual. And you know what? They may not invoke the same depth in outcome, but both are still valid.

When we honour the many ways people express ritual, we create inclusivity rather than hierarchy. We stop measuring whose journey is “deeper” or more “authentic.” Instead, we celebrate the shared intention behind it all - spreading love, presence, and good energy.

Whether you’re just beginning or years into your spiritual journey, the heart of ritual remains the same: it’s about creating moments that matter.

It’s not always about how elaborate the practice is, or how much “work” you’ve done. It’s about showing up, with intention, to whatever brings you back home to yourself.

At The Mantra Blends, this is what we’re all about - making ritual simple, beautiful, and accessible. Through our teas, affirmation cards, and guided practices, we hold your hand in creating mindful moments that feel good to you. No pressure, no rules, just small daily pauses that remind you to slow down, breathe, and reconnect.

Don’t get me wrong, I adore, respect and admire those that recognise there’s deep soul work to be done, and take the time to continually heal on all levels. Absolutely if more people did the work, the better. But on a simpler level, if the buzz around ritual helps more people pause, connect, choose and spread love? Well, isn’t that a win for us all?

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this my friends, hit reply below and let’s chat about it!

Biggest love to all,

Lauren xx
